Proto Energy Saves Over 7,000 Tonnes of CO2 in 2025 Through Green Initiatives

Proto Energy Limited has announced significant progress in its sustainability agenda, reporting a reduction of 7,085.76 tonnes of CO2 emissions in the first half of 2025. According to its newly released Sustainability Report, this is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting 4,723 hectares of eucalyptus trees.
Themed “Creating a World of Endless Possibilities Through Sustainable Practices,” the report underscores Proto Energy’s efforts to embed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its core operations. The company’s initiatives are aligned with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Climate Action, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Good Health.
Among the milestones achieved in 2025, 38 schools were converted from firewood to clean LPG cooking systems, three medical camps were conducted for staff and nearby communities, and 37 female employees participated in a leadership and growth program.
“In an era where sustainability is no longer optional but essential, Proto Energy is embedding it at the core of our business,” said Joel Kamau, CEO of Proto Energy. “Our mission is to deliver clean, quality, and accessible LPG to every Kenyan household and business while protecting the environment and empowering our communities. Together, we fuel a future that is affordable, sustainable, and inclusive.”
The company has also invested in environmental stewardship, planting 600 trees across its sites, with its Proto Miritini Plant winning the Oil and Gas industry category at the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSH) awards.
Looking ahead, Proto Energy has outlined ambitious sustainability targets: achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, restoring 100 hectares of forested areas by 2030, and transitioning an additional 50 schools to clean LPG cooking by 2027.
“Our ambition goes beyond numbers; it’s about shaping a future where every home and business in Kenya can access clean energy without compromising the health of our environment,” Kamau added.
