Kenya Power Hosts 2nd Grid & Innovation Conference 2025
Kenya Power has officially kicked off its 2nd Grid and Innovation Conference 2025, a forum aimed at driving transformative solutions to address emerging challenges in the energy sector.
The three-day conference, themed “Accelerating Innovation for Business Sustainability,” has drawn more than 400 participants, including industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and Kenya Power employees.
“At Kenya Power, our mandate goes beyond keeping the lights on. We aim to be the energy solutions provider of choice, delivering efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Therefore, innovation is not an option but the foundation of our growth, resilience, and ability to serve a growing economy,” said Kenya Power Managing Director & CEO, Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror.
The conference comes at a pivotal time as Kenya scales up electricity connections to achieve universal access by 2030. Growing demand from new technologies such as e-mobility and electric cooking is driving the need for innovative solutions to ensure reliable and sustainable energy supply.
“Innovation is a catalyst for revolutionizing access to affordable, clean, and reliable energy solutions. Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, and e-mobility are a testament to the critical role of innovation in the energy sector,” noted Kenya Power Board Chair, Joy Brenda Masinde.
As part of the forum, Kenya Power launched a new Innovation Ideas Portal, hosted at the Institute of Energy Studies and Research (IESR), its fully-owned subsidiary. The platform will track the growth and commercialization of new technologies targeting the energy sector across the region.
“It is through innovation that energy systems will become environmentally, socially, and financially solid,” said Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi. “The innovation ideas hub will provide structured support for innovators to match solutions to the challenges we face in the energy sector.”
This year’s conference will also address transformative solutions around emerging issues, knowledge management, system losses, revenue diversification, and Kenya Power’s digital transition.
