NCBA Scales Up Sustainability Commitments, Impacting Over 740,000 Lives in H1 2025
NCBA Group has deepened its commitment to sustainability through its flagship Change The Story agenda, channeling billions into green financing and delivering broad social and environmental impact across East Africa.
During the first half of 2025, the Group mobilized and steered KES 9.5 billion in green and sustainable financing, reaffirming its role in driving Kenya’s and the region’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The financing has been directed towards projects in clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable transport, and other environmentally responsible ventures.
NCBA also advanced its reforestation efforts by planting 396,459 trees in collaboration with multiple partners. This initiative is part of the Group’s ambitious target to plant 10 million trees by 2030, contributing to Kenya’s broader national climate action goals. At the same time, the bank continued to focus on community empowerment, reaching 55,335 women and youth with targeted skills-building and mentorship programs designed to enhance financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
Through stakeholder collaborations, NCBA created 9,238 direct and indirect jobs during the period. In total, its sustainability programs impacted 743,768 livelihoods, touching lives through access to financing, mentorship, environmental projects, and community engagement. Sports were also integrated into its sustainability agenda, with 8,420 participants engaged through golf, cycling, and national sports partnerships that promote wellness, youth involvement, and networking.
The Group further reinforced its social responsibility by deploying over KES 90 million to community initiatives and golf sponsorships, supporting education, social welfare, and local development projects.
The Group’s half-year results underscore a future in which NCBA’s financial growth is increasingly linked with its sustainability commitments. By scaling green financing, investing in community development, and advancing environmental stewardship, NCBA says it is not only strengthening its market position but also shaping a more inclusive and resilient future for East Africa.
