Vivo Energy Kenya Honours Mechanics at Eldoret Wellness Event
More than 100 mechanics from across the North Rift gathered in Eldoret on Saturday as Vivo Energy Kenya held its second annual Mechanics Wellness Day, recognising the professionals who keep the country’s transport, agriculture and industry running.
The event, themed Celebrating the People Behind Kenya’s Mobility Ecosystem, forms part of Shell Lubricants’ commitment to supporting mechanics beyond the sale of lubricants, investing instead in their health, professional development and long-term success.
Mechanics service tractors, trucks, buses and family vehicles, work that keeps goods and people moving safely across the country’s transport, industrial, manufacturing, agricultural, engineering and construction sectors.
Stephen Gikonyo, Lubricants and LPG Sales and Marketing Manager at Vivo Energy Kenya, said the event was a tribute to the mechanics whose expertise keeps the country moving.
“This day is about celebrating and thanking the skilled men and women whose hands keep Kenya moving. Behind every safe journey, every successful delivery and every successful harvest is a mechanic whose expertise makes it possible,” Gikonyo said.
“Through Shell Lubricants, we are proud to stand alongside these professionals by investing not only in high quality products, but also in their health, skills and wellbeing. We believe that behind every mechanic should be a partner that cares, and today’s event is a reflection of that commitment.”
Vivo Energy Kenya said it continues to support mechanics through technical training, product knowledge programmes, safety education and access to lubrication solutions, helping workshops deliver better service and build customer confidence.
The Eldoret event combined health, sports and recreation, with activities including football matches, pool and darts competitions, indoor games and health screening for participants.
Ezra Omwancha of Equity Afya said mechanics face unique occupational hazards that make regular health checks important.
“Mechanics often work long hours in confined spaces, lift heavy equipment, and are regularly exposed to physically demanding conditions,” Omwancha said. “Through this initiative, we are providing free health screening and related medical services to help ensure they remain healthy and able to continue supporting Kenya’s transport and agricultural sectors.”
The day also gave mechanics a chance to connect with colleagues, families and industry partners, before closing with an awards ceremony recognising winners of the sporting and recreational competitions.
Vivo Energy Kenya said it remains committed to strengthening partnerships with mechanics as the country’s mobility ecosystem evolves, describing investment in the profession as an investment in the country’s economic future.
