KCB Foundation targets 30,000 farmers in digital drive
KCB Foundation has launched a nine-month digital empowerment programme targeting 30,000 smallholder farmers across Kenya, as lenders and development partners deepen efforts to bring the country’s dairy sector into the formal economy.
The Farmer Visibility (FaVi) initiative, implemented in partnership with KCB Bank Kenya and Heifer International Kenya, is designed to strengthen financial inclusion, expand market access and accelerate digital transformation of the dairy value chain.
Participating farmers will be issued digital entities intended to increase their visibility within formal agricultural systems. Through these digital profiles, farmers are expected to build reliable transaction records, improve access to financial products and strengthen their participation in structured dairy markets.
The programme will roll out through 60 dairy cooperatives and farmer producer organisations across the Central, Rift Valley and Western regions. It will also focus on financial literacy, digitising farmer transactions, enhancing dairy productivity and widening access to savings, credit, insurance and input financing.
Speaking during the launch, KCB Foundation Managing Director Mendi Njonjo said the programme is aimed at strengthening agricultural resilience through digital innovation and financial inclusion.
“We are building resilient agricultural systems where smallholder farmers are visible, financially empowered, digitally connected, and fully integrated into formal markets,” Njonjo said.
“Through the Farmer Visibility initiative, we are combining digital innovation, financial inclusion and practical agricultural support to help farmers increase productivity and improve household incomes,” she added.
The initiative targets longstanding barriers that have limited smallholder farmers’ access to formal financial services. By digitising financial and commercial transactions, the programme is expected to strengthen farmers’ credit records and improve transparency across the dairy value chain.
It forms part of wider efforts to modernise Kenya’s agricultural sector through technology-driven solutions, bundling digital tools, financial services and agricultural support into a single ecosystem aimed at lifting productivity and incomes for smallholder dairy farmers.
