African Energy Week 2026 to examine how renewable investment can power Africa’s industrial future

Africa’s vast renewable energy potential and the investment strategies needed to convert it into long-term industrial growth will take stage at the Future Economics Forum during the African Energy Week 2026, scheduled for 12th to 16th October 2026 in Cape Town.

Hosted by the Zayed Sustainability Price, the session, titled From Power to Position: Industry and Sovereignty in Africa’s Next Economy, will examine how proven energy innovations can attract large-scale investment and strengthen Africa’s industrial clean competitiveness.

This discussion comes as the continent seeks to unlock estimated 850 terawatts of wind and solar energy potential. Despite Africa’s abundant renewable resources, only a small share has secured commercial financing, highlighting need for stronger investment frameworks and bankable projects.

However, momentum is building across the entire sector. Renewable energy developers Masdar and Africa50 are advancing an initiative worth $10 billion to deploy 10GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Largest project, including Egypt 10GW wind development and Morocco’s planned $27.2 billion hydrogen complex, further demonstrates growing investment in Africa’s clean energy economy.

Further, the forum will also explore the rapid expansion of digital infrastructure and its relationship with sustainable energy development. Currently Africa accounts for less than 1%of global data center capacity, although hundreds of megawatts of new facilities are underdevelopment to meet the risimg demand driven by artificial intelligence and digital services.

According to the organisers, the session will also asses how Africa can replicate the investment model seen in digital infrastructure by strengthening policy certainty, validating commercial projects and improving investors confidence in renewable energy initiatives.

“This session gets to the heart of Africa’s investment challenge. The Zayed Sustainability Prize has spent more than two decades proving that innovation must earn confidence before it attracts capital, and that’s the mindset Africa needs to transform its immense clean energy potential into industrial growth, energy sovereignty and globally competitive economies,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber.

The session aligns with Africa’s Energy Week 2026’s broader objectives of promoting investments in projects that accelerate sustainable industrialization, expand renewable energy deployment and support Africa’s long-term economic development.
