Bamburi Cement pledges World Bank-aligned resettlement as Matuga clinker plant advances
Bamburi Cement says it is implementing a resettlement process for communities affected by its proposed Matuga Greenfield Clinker Plant in Kwale County in line with the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework.
The commitment follows a leadership visit to the project site in Diani Estate, led by Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Ndugwa.
The team reviewed progress at the resettlement and livelihood restoration areas and engaged the Mwachome Project Affected Persons (PAPs) Committee.
Bamburi Cement said continuous dialogue with affected communities remains central to its approach, with a focus on restoring livelihoods beyond the construction phase.
The leadership team also held consultations with the National Administration and the Kwale County Government, who reiterated their support for the investment.
Discussions centred on ensuring the project delivers long-term economic value while meeting environmental and social standards.
The visit ended with a tree-planting exercise at the site, which the company said reflects its commitment to environmental stewardship and climate resilience.
Once operational, the plant is expected to boost local manufacturing capacity, support regional economic growth and create jobs, while strengthening Kenya’s construction sector.
